In this oral history, William Wood discusses his SEC tenure from 1956 to 1987 in the SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance. The interview required two tapes but has one transcript.

William Wood, Part 2

 

Part 1 – Mr. Wood discusses beginning his career as a clerk typist and rising to the role of associate director. He also describes the agency’s changing structure, culture, and workload through the 1950s to the 1970s. He also recounts the impact of rising workloads – especially after the 1964 law expanding filings. 

Part 2 – He elaborates on the shift toward more attorneys, the decline of financial analysts, and the effects of political appointments and external hires on the SEC.
